Before You Take a Picture, Frame Your Face: Anastasia vs. Maybelline

Hello Lovelies!

In order for your makeup to come together nicely, your brows must be shaped and filled in (if necessary) correctly. The brows frame one’s face. In other words, your brows should be tailored to your particular face shape to help balance out all of your features.

(For more tips on how to get a good frame, check out this link: http://www.elle.com/beauty/makeup-skin-care/perfect-eyebrows-how-to-get-hollywoods-best-arches-455543 )

Because either you or the person you entrust to do your brows go to “painstaking lengths” to make them look nice, it is imperative that you have the right products to fill them in (again, if necessary) during makeup application. For this entry, I’ve compared Maybelline’s Define-A-Brow Eyebrow pencil and Anastasia’s Brow Wiz Skinny Brow Pencil.

A side-by-side comparison of the two pencils:

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz (left) USD $21+tax, and 0.003 oz. and Maybelline Define-A-Brow USD $5.97-$6.99+tax, and 0.001 oz.

(Will be using abbreviations as the product names are quite long. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz- ABHBW and Maybelline Define-A-Brow- MDAB)

ABHBW is slightly thicker than MDAB

However, the MDAB pencil (left) is thicker, unlike ABHBW (right).

The swatches of both pencils: ABHBW (left), MDAB (right) (<<<the swatch for this one looks a little like a bruise going length-wise)

MDAB

Pros-

-Color fades in nicely, once applied (but you have to keep working at it)

Cons-

– There tends to be a tugging during application

– Pencil flakes during application

-Takes a long time to apply

-Strokes tend to be a bit thick

-It’s retractable, however it’s difficult to twist and twist back down again, wasting product

-Comb on the end doesn’t really serve much of a purpose (So if you choose to purchase this pencil, invest in a good brow brush/spoolie, lovelies)

ABHBW-

Pros-

– Lines are nice and thin, during application. Short strokes create the illusion of thicker brow hair.

-Retractability- very good; one can twist the pencil up and down with very little to no problems and thus save product.

-Doesn’t flake

-Makes brows look natural

-Spoolie on the end combs product through very well

Cons-

-Can sometimes be hard to blend out

Conclusion

For those of you who are just getting their feet wet with filling in their brows and aren’t looking for anything expensive, Maybelline Define-A-Brow Eyebrow Pencil is the product for you. However, if you’re looking to invest a good, quality product that lasts for a while, and a variety of shades to match their respective brow color, Anastasia Brow Wiz is the product for you.

I hope this entry helped you today :). Until next time Lovelies, Happy Shopping!
