We all know that eyeliner- after mascara and lipgloss- is one of the most, if not the most, important thing in our makeup arsenals. A little eyeliner could give the smallest peepers the biggest BOOST! The arbiters of eyeliner lay hold of this 12,000 years ago in ancient Egypt where it was first used. Both males and females, who were of elite status, used eyeliner to accentuate their eyes and prevent wrinkles from being formed under them due constant exposure to the sun and desert wind. (If you’d like more info on the history of eyeliner check out this link: http://www.historyofcosmetics.net/history-of-makeup/history-of-eye-liner/ )
Today, however, one uses eyeliner regardless of his or her status. It’s worn by all regardless of his/her budget. Eyeliner can be used on the upper lash line, lower lower lash line, or both- depending on your preference- and can significantly change the shape of the eye. Its purpose it to help make eyelashes look more voluminous! It comes in a variety of textures such as kohl, wax-based, powder-based, and more, to help achieve certain looks such as a smokey eye or a well-defined look. I’ve chosen two eyeliners, which are my go-to’s when I want to create a quick and simple, yet slightly colorful look: Maybelline Master Drama Cream Pencil and Stila’s Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner. I typically place these on my upper lash liner when I don’t have time or don’t feel like doing my eyeliner. They’re both very good, pigmented liners. As usual, I will discuss the pros and cons of each below:
Both eyeliners are designed to glide onto the eye and provide intense color. Also, they’re both retractable liners that you can twist up and down, saving you product and money.
Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner, USD $20+ tax
-Very Pigmented, intense color
-Glides on well
-Serves as a great base for eyeshadows (helps intensify colors of eyeshadows)
-Difficult in applying straight line
-Creamy texture can be a bit messy
Maybelline Master Drama Cream Pencil, USD $6.94-$7.99+ tax -the price varies depending on the location and the store
(the color is Sapphire Strength, which I believe, is not sold anymore :(- a travesty because this is my favorite color from this collection. If it is sold, it’s VERY hard to find!)
-Pretty color (somewhat frosty/metallic which reflects beautifully in both artificial and natural lighting, but mainly natural)
-Very precise application
-Serves as a great base for eyeshadows
-While the color is very pretty, it takes a little work to intensify it. It takes a stroke or two (or three).
-Application can be a bit stiff
-Somewhat hard to remove (some residue can still be seen a day after)
These are both quality liners. However, if you’re in a hurry or don’t like spending an hour on your makeup, specifically your eyes, I’d say the best choice is the Maybelline eyeliner. Then again, if you have a steadier hand (lol) and a bigger budget, go with Stila. Either way, you’ll look beautiful 🙂 Until next time, happy shopping Lovelies! See ya! Smooches!
